Lite-On Expected To Produce More Optical Disc Drives For Sony

If you weren't aware, Lite-On currently manufacturers most of Sony's optical drives. According to DigiTimes, this relationship is expected to continue while Sony focuses on producing drives using Blu-Ray technology.

Lite-On IT is expected to OEM produce more optical disc drives (ODDs) for Sony, which will focus more on producing blue-ray drives, according to Taiwan ODD makers.

Lite-On IT currently has an OEM relationship with Sony to produce half-height (H/H) ODDs and slim-type ODDs, mainly for DVD burners, the makers pointed out.

The Japanese company plans to phase out its production of own brand ODDs and contract more of the production to Lite-On IT, the makers stated. In addition, Sony also OEM manufactures ODDs for other makers, and these orders will be transferred to Lite-On IT, the makers noted.
